So this morning at cross country practice I heard the news, I will be captain of Vanden’s 2013-14 cross country team. Coach St. Louis told me after the workout and I’ll be leading the team this year with my co-captains Logan and Alex. Let’s make this a good season!

As I am preparing the EP to be uploaded all over the internet, I kind of reflected on it for a moment. I’m really proud of the way it turned out. I remember when we finished tracking everything Eustace said “Wow, we set a goal for ourselves and we actually finished it.” About 2 months of work were put into this EP that is only about 12 minutes long. (Now I understand why it takes signed bands so long to make new albums.) But this challenged me more as a musician, more on the producing side though. Even though I wrote the music for all of the songs and the lyrics for two of them as well, this project had me awake at ridiculous times fine tuning every little detail in each track. And it’s still not even at a professional or very high quality level. But ya know, that’s alright considering this entire EP was produced from my bedroom. For what it is, in terms of quality, it turned out decent. Feedback that we have gotten from material already released was really good though. Eustace thinks it’s really catchy and a lot of my friends honestly enjoyed it. Also during this whole process, I helped Eustace develop more of his own style for vocals. When we started tracking the second verse of “Override” I asked him to make it more angsty so it’s not so bland and from there we started re-recording everything. For my part musically, this was a fairly easy project honestly. Each song was written really quick. Like I wrote “Watch Me in one night. The most time consuming song to write, was Otter Days, but still that only took about 5 or 6 days. Anyways, I’m probably going to release everything before midnight, it’s close enough to June 18th. If I were to describe the overall theme for all the lyrics, I’d say they’re just shitty stories of being a teenager aha. I mean the theme kind of was to go back to childhood and going back to being innocent and having fun just appreciating the little things. That’s what I was thinking when I wrote the lyrics for Otter Days.
